On-Line Planar Graph Embedding

چکیده
We present a dynamic data structure for the incremental construction of a planar embedding of a planar graph. The data structure supports the following Ž . operations: i testing if a new edge can be added to the embedding without Ž . introducing crossing; and ii adding vertices and edges. The time complexity of Ž . Ž . each operation is O log n amortized for edge insertion , and the memory space Ž . and preprocessing time are O n , where n is the current number of vertices of the graph. Connectivity augmentation in planar straight line graphs∗
It is shown that every connected planar straight line graph with n ≥ 3 vertices has an embedding preserving augmentation to a 2-edge connected planar straight line graph with at most b(2n − 2)/3c new edges. It is also shown that every planar straight line tree with n ≥ 3 vertices has an embedding preserving augmentation to a 2-edge connected planar topological graph with at most bn/2c new edges...

متن کاملGeometric Embedding of Path and Cycle Graphs in Pseudo-convex Polygons
Given a graph G with n vertices and a set S of n points in the plane, a point-set embedding of G on S is a planar drawing such that each vertex of G is mapped to a distinct point of S. A straight-line point-set embedding is a point-set embedding with no edge bends or curves. The point-set embeddability problem is NP-complete, even when G is 2-connected and 2-outerplanar. It has been solved poly...
متن کاملOn the Book Thickness of 1-Planar Graphs
In a book embedding of a graph G, the vertices of G are placed in order along a straight-line called spine of the book, and the edges of G are drawn on a set of half-planes, called the pages of the book, such that two edges drawn on a page do not cross each other. The minimum number of pages in which a graph can be embedded is called the book-thickness or the page-number of the graph. It is kno...
متن کاملStudy of Proper Hierarchical Graphs on a Grid
Hierarchical planar graph embedding (sometimes called level planar graphs) is widely recognized as a very important task in diverse fields of research and development. Given a proper hierarchical planar graph, we want to find a geometric position of every vertex (layout) in a straight-line grid drawing without any edge-intersection. An additional objective is to minimize the area of the rectang...
متن کاملOn Universal Point Sets for Planar Graphs
A set P of points in R is n-universal, if every planar graph on n vertices admits a plane straight-line embedding on P. Answering a question by Kobourov, we show that there is no n-universal point set of size n, for any n 15. Conversely, we use a computer program to show that there exist universal point sets for all n 10 and to enumerate all corresponding order types. Finally, we describe a col...
